AMC 8

  • For: Middle school students (grade 8 and below)
  • Format: 25 questions, 40 minutes
  • Scoring: 1 point per correct answer (max 25)
  • Topics: Middle school mathematics including counting, probability, estimation, geometry, number theory, and basic algebra
  • Awards: Honor Roll (top 5%), Distinguished Honor Roll (top 1%)

AMC 10

  • For: Students in grade 10 and below
  • Format: 25 questions, 75 minutes
  • Scoring: 6 points correct, 1.5 blank, 0 wrong (max 150)
  • Topics: Elementary algebra, geometry, number theory, counting & probability (no trig, complex numbers, or calculus)
  • Qualification: Top 2.5% advance to AIME
AIME

AIME

  • Full Name: American Invitational Mathematics Examination
  • Format: 15 questions, 3 hours
  • Answers: Integers from 0 to 999
  • Difficulty: Much harder than AMC, easier than Olympiad
  • Qualification: AIME score + AMC score determines USAJMO/USAMO qualification
JMO/MO

USAJMO & USAMO

  • USAJMO: USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (AMC 10 path)
  • USAMO: USA Mathematical Olympiad (AMC 12 path)
  • Format: 6 proof problems over 2 days (4.5 hours each)
  • Top Performers: Invited to Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP)
  • Ultimate Goal: Selection for USA IMO team
